Successful PiCam Upgrade in Ecuador
Thomas Wilkes has recently completed a successful excursion to Ecuador to upgrade the hardware of our cameras installed on Cotopaxi and Reventador in collaboration with IGEPN. This work was completed using recent ODA funding which has allowed the development of our PiCam systems to enhance reliability and performance by upgrading from our current dual Raspberry Pi microcomputer approach. These improvements have been achieved by moving to the Raspberry Pi 5 microcomputer, from the Pi 3B+, now that the Pi 5 has two camera ports. We now need to use only one Raspberry Pi in our cameras which simplifies the interior peripheries needed. Several other improvements have been made to software, meaning that our camera is now even more reliable and functional!
