ODA Project

VolcanoTech has recently acquired £50k funding from International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) Institutional Support Grant for a project titled State-of-the-art volcanic gas monitoring for effective hazard mitigation at Cotopaxi Volcano, Ecuador. The project will develop VolcanoTech’s next generation SO2 camera based on the Raspberry Pi 5, making our instrument more reliable and compact. Furthermore, we will be working with Instituto Geofísico - EPN (Ecuador) to improve how our instruments are integrated into monitoring networks, in particular aiming to make data readily available and processed in the cloud. We will install the new model on Cotopaxi, one of Ecuador’s most hazardous volcanoes, where 100,000s of people live in areas at risk to volcanic hazards, particularly lahars.
